Brandon joined up with the Michigan Red Sox for the 2004 summer baseball season. He played with the Sox for 4 seasons and had a stellar career in high school. He earned a baseball scholarship to Michigan State University but more impressively was awarded much greater scholarships due to his academics.

Brandon played four years of baseball at Michigan State University and became MSU's all time hit leader.

Upon graduation from MSU, Brandon was preparing for a career in law when the Detroit Tigers drafted him. After contemplating this decision, he elected to give baseball one more shot and signed his major league contract playing rookie ball in Florida in the Gulf Coast League with the Tigers.
