2018 Team Long Information

Coach Anthony Long returns for his third year with the Michigan Red Sox to lead a team of 11 year olds into the 2017 – 2018 season.  Coach Long started as an assistant with the 9u Sox and then moved to a head coach in 2017.  For 2018, he has a good feel for what is needed to develop his players and will direct this 11u team with a focused effort.
The 11u Sox – Team Long will be encouraged to participate in the Motor City Power 12u Fall Baseball program with all games held at Poppleton Park in Birmingham.   Along with the fall baseball, Coach Long’s team will have a few team workouts for players to get to know one another.
Starting in October, Team Long will begin athletic training with Phil Loomis.  Coach Loomis will provide 9 sessions of athletic training and development to help prepare our athletes.
In November and December, Team Long will have practices indoors approximately twice a week.  These practices will be to develop and prepare players for a December dome tournament at Oakland Yard.
In January, Team Long will continue practices twice a week through February which will again include two dome tournaments for game experiences.  Some practices will be assisted by trainers of the Michigan Red Sox.  As Spring arrives Coach Long will advance to three practices per week and will take his team into the North Oakland Baseball Federation 11u division.  This league will provide team Long with 20+ league games.  Mixed in with these league games, Coach Long will take his team to 6-8 tournaments in the metro Detroit area finishing out the season in early July.
With this aggressive participation of the 11u Long team, we are expecting great development out of those players that are able to give their full commitment.  An approximate cost per player will be approximately $1,400.  Once a team is selected and the commitment level is determined, we will have a more definite cost for participation.  Membership on Team Long 11u will include unlimited use of the Michigan Red Sox training center, a member of the Teamsnap communication system, discounted private and semi private lessons, and discounted camps.  It also includes a uniform consisting of socks, pants, belt, three jerseys, a pullover, helmet, and backpack if necessary.
